WHO IS JESUS?

June 27, 2016 Pastor Florence

For God so loved the World that He gave his best to save the world (John 3:16), in fact he gave Himself to save humanity from destruction. The world was heading for destruction and desperately needed intervention by a supreme power; the world needed help.

Mankind needed a saviour to rescue the human race from destroying themselves. God came Himself in form of His Son Jesus Christ to save humanity. He came to rescue man from his adversary, the devil. His job is to steal, kill and to destroy. He made available a way of escape through the Saviour.

The Word of God in John 1:12 says: “As many as believes in Him (The Saviour) he gave them power to become sons of God”.

POINT 1

WHO IS JESUS?

Jesus is the Messiah, the saviour of the human race. The first prophecy about Him came from God in (Gen 3:15) that the descendant, the seed of a woman (JESUS) would come into the world and destroy the works of Satan; this is the first messianic prophetic utterance.

The seed of a woman was coming into the world to destroy Satan’s evil works in the world and humanity. One of the bible scholars called this prophecy of the birth of the Jesus as the first gospel. This promise was fulfilled praise God; in incarnation and birth of JESUS.

Incarnation is the embodiment of a deity or spirit in some earthly form. This means the union of divinity with humanity in Jesus.

Messiah comes from the Hebrew word Mashiach meaning the anointed one or chosen one. The Greek equivalent is the word Christos and in English it is Christ. The name Jesus Christ is the same as Jesus the Messiah.

In the biblical times, anointing someone with oil was a sign that God was consecrating or setting that individual apart for a particular role in God’s work. They had a special, God-ordained purpose.

Other names of Jesus include:-

Wonderful, Mighty God, Counsellor, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)

King of kings and Lord of lords (Rev. 19:16), Son of God and Son of Man.

All scripture in the old testament prophetically spoke of the coming of Jesus:

Genesis 12:3 (KJV)

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Here God was revealing his plan of redemption to Abraham, that through him. A redeemer will come into the world, God will bless the world though Christ Jesus; that means, whosoever believes in Christ shall be saved from their life of sin and destruction and become children of God.

Other prophetic Scriptures;

Ge.3:15; Ge.12:3; Ge.49:10; De18:15, Ps.2:2 Ps.45:2: Ps.68:18; Ps.69:21; Ps.110:1 Da.2:34, 44; Da7:13; Da.9:25; Mi.5:2; Hag. 2:7; Zec.3:8; 6:12; 9:9; 11:12; 12:10 Mal.3:3 etc.

In Isaiah 9:6, Prophet Isaiah saw this revelation of the birth of Jesus, the Messiah.

He said, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. Luke 1:31 (KJV)

Apostle Paul wrote concerning the fulfilment that has come in Galatians 4:4; "But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law".

And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus. (Matthew 1:25 KJV)

POINT 2

WHY DID JESUS COME?

The Bible gives many reasons why Messiah came into the world. These include;

Fulfilling prophecy, to seek the lost (Luke 19:10), to save the lost (Matthew 18:11) and to Serve. He came to give His life as a ransom. (Matthew 20:28), that men might have life more abundant (John 10:10) and to destroy the works of the devil.

Jesus accomplished His mission

Philippians 2:9-11 (KJV)

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

POINT 3

JESUS IS COMING BACK AGAIN

Are you ready?

The same way he ascended to heaven, He is coming again in like manner. Amen

Acts 1:10-11

10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

He gave the church an assignment to GO!
